Study On The Sustainable Livelihoods Of The Far-farm Households During The Relocation Of Poverty Alleviation

The report of The 19th Communist Party of China National Congress states:"China will continue the precisely poverty alleviation,so as to ensure the achievement of poverty alleviation in rural areas and regional poverty solve in 2020,as per China’s current standards of rural poor".In order to achieve the goal,relocation of poverty alleviation has been leveled up national strategy and has become the fundamental measure to solve the living problem of the poorest people,who are not able to afford a basic living in where they live.During the implement of relocation of poverty alleviation,the far-farm households whose current residence is far from their own land shows.They are far away from their own land,losing the convenience of agricultural production and facing challenges to their livelihood.Their sustainable livelihoods is not only related to the effectiveness of the relocation of poverty alleviation,but also related to the current life and future development of them.This study used the theory of sustainable livelihoods and based on the widely used sustainable livelihood analysis framework established by the United Kingdom Agency for International Development(DFID).Through a research on the status of livelihood capital of 629 far-farm households in H County,Hubei Province,the study found that the far-farm households in sustainable livelihoods faces three problems:unstable family income,increased family expenditure and weak social support.The main reasons are as follows:the inconvenience of production leads to a reduction in land income,the low level of labor force of the far-farm households leads to the relative decrease of their labor income,the radical change of living style lead to the increase of household expenditure,the reconstruction of social network leads to the weak social support.Based on the above analysis,it can be seen that the far-farm households during the process of relocation of poverty alleviation face challenges in their sustainable livelihood.Therefore,it is necessary to take corresponding countermeasures:increasing the household income of the far-farm households in many ways,improving the employment status of the far-farm households through multiple measures,toughening the social support of the far-farm households by multiple channels to promote their sustainable livelihoods.
