PACE teaching mode(Presentation,Attention,Co-construction,Extension)was proposed by American linguists Adair Hauck and Donato in 1994.This teaching mode takes into account the form and meaning of language,aims to effectively improve students’ comprehensive language use ability,substantially supplement English reading teaching methods and enhance students’ English reading ability.Guided by Constructivist learning theory and communicative teaching methods,this study discusses the feasibility and effectiveness of the teaching model of the combination of PACE model and senior high school English reading teaching to improve students’ reading speed,accuracy and achievement.Three research questions will be answered: 1)how does PACE teaching model affect senior high school students’ English reading speed? 2)How does PACE teaching model affect the accuracy of senior high school students’ English reading? 3)How does PACE teaching model affect senior high school students’ English reading achievement?The author carried out a four-month teaching experiment in the Second Senior Middle School in Yingkou Development Zone,Liaoning Province from November to December 2021.The subjects of this research were two parallel classes in grade one of senior high school.Among them,Class 7 is the experimental class(EC),which adopts PACE teaching mode to teach English reading.Class 6 is the control class(CC),which adopts the traditional reading teaching method.According to the four basic steps of PACE teaching design,the author presents meaningful materials,pays attention to language forms,jointly constructs grammar rules,carries out expansionary activities,and guides students to complete the learning tasks of each step.By methods of questionnaire,interview,classroom observation,pre-test and post-test,the relevant research data of reading teaching using PACE mode are collected,and then through SPSS26.0,the author analyzes the data and draws research conclusions on this basis.The results show that PACE teaching model can not only improve students’ English reading speed,but also improve students’ reading accuracy,and develop students’ English reading ability,which is also reflected in the positive impact on students’ reading performance.This study has certain reference and enlightenment significance for English Reading Teaching in senior high school.For example,teachers need to use meaningful teaching materials with specific situations to stimulate students’ interest.Teachers should use rich practical activities in classroom practice to help students,so that students can understand and apply what they have learned.At the same time,teachers should also consider the differences between different students in personality traits and learning styles,so as to adjust the communicative activities in the classroom accordingly and carry out English reading teaching more effectively.
