With the development of positive psychology in second language acquisition,there has been growing research interest in positive emotions experienced by foreign language learners.Among so many positive emotions,foreign language enjoyment(FLE)or foreign language(classroom)enjoyment(FLCE)has attracted extensive attention from both foreign and domestic scholars.Relevant studies have shown that learners’ FLE or FLCE can effectively promote their willingness to communicate and facilitate foreign language learning.Further research indicates that an increasing number of scholars have explored the influencing factors of students’ FLE and found a big variety of variables,such as teacher-related factors.Nonetheless,in light of the existing literature on FLE,foreign researches have started earlier and achieved abundant results,while domestic researches are still on the initial stage.Furthermore,most of the small number of existing studies take college students as the research participants,which is certainly lacking in the study on senior high school students.Moreover,the influencing factors of the researches mostly focus on teacher-related factors.Yet classroom activity variables,being one of the critical teacher-related factors,have not received moderate attention.Therefore,it is essential to conduct in-depth researches on classroom activity factors in senior high school students’ English classroom enjoyment.Concerning the limitations of the current studies,442 students from a senior high school in Liaoning province are taken as the research participants.The focused essay is employed as the instrument for collecting data,supplemented by interview.The present study is designed to answer the following three questions:(1)What is the current situation of senior high school students’ FLE?(2)What are the classroom activity factors influencing senior high school students’ FLE?(3)What categories do these factors belong to? How do different factors influence senior high school students’ FLE?Through the descriptive analysis of SPSS.26.0 and the coding function of NVivo11.0,the major findings of this study are as follows:(1)The current situation of senior high school students’ English classroom enjoyment is at a medium to a low level.(2)There are 27 classroom activity factors influencing senior high school students’ English classroom enjoyment.(3)These factors can be classified into four categories,namely,group activity,class activity,pair activity,and individual activity.Group activity exerts the most significant influence on students’ English classroom enjoyment,followed by class activity,pair activity,and individual activity.In view of the above research results,the present research have provided front-line teachers with valuable pedagogical implications: teachers are expected to make great efforts to promote students’ experience of enjoyment in both individual work and cooperative learning,design and choose more group activities and organize individual activities within learners’ current ability.Finally,the innovation,limitations,and future research directions are presented,which are conducive to building a positive English classroom environment and promoting students’ English classroom enjoyment experience.
