| This is an English-Chinese translation report,which takes the twelfth and thirteenth chapters of Fox and I: An Uncommon Friendship the the source text.Fox and I: An Uncommon Friendship is a biography written by a Canadian biologist Catherine Raven.It records the Catherine’s scientific life in the countryside,during which Catherine writes a textbook with Fox as the object of study.Through spending time with Fox,Catherine also has many insights about life and appreciated the beauty of nature.This report analyzes the linguistic features and text type of the source text,as well as the difficulties in the translation process,and puts up the solutions of these difficulties.In the chapter on the analysis of difficulties,the translator analyzes from two aspects at lexical level and syntactic level.At lexical level,for the proper nouns in the original text,the translator adopts the method of annotation to explain and illustrate them,so that readers can fully understand the text and help them broaden their knowledge.In order to make the translation in line with Chinese expression habits,Polysemous words also occurs in the source text,and the translator chooses the correct expressions according to the context of the translation.At syntactic level,this translation report analyzes attribute clauses and adverbial clauses.The translator uses reconstruction and division to translate the attributive clauses and adverbial clauses appear in the source text many times.In the process of translation,the translator analyzes the structure of the attributive clause and adverbial clause to grasp the composition of the main clauses and subordinate clauses.And these clauses are divided into new short sentences.In order to better express the logical and semantic connection between the attributive clauses and adverbial clauses,the translator adopts the way of reconstruction to change the order of the original sentences.So as to make the translation more in line with the common expressions in Chinese.Because the source text is a autobiography written by Catherine.According to the theory of text types and translation methods put by Reiss,which provides some directions for the translator’s translation.During the process of translation,the translator has tried to maintain the literary quality of the biographical work while being as faithful as possible to the source language text. |
