| Star Trek: Costumes,Five Decades of Fashion from the Final Frontier mainly records the creation and production of character costumes in Star Trek series,as well as its impact on film and television art creation and audiences.This translation practice report takes its English original text as the translation materials,focusing on the features of fashion industry and its spoken languages,as well as those idiomatic expressions for cross-culture readers,so as to make out some practical translation schemes through detailed cases analysis.This translation report is based on the relevance translation theory from the German scholar Ernst August Gutt in Translation and Relevance.For the purpose of achieving optimal relevance,both the intention of the authors of the source text and the acceptance ability of readers has been fully considered in the translating process.In addition,the following two principles are strictly followed when in translation: on one hand,the original authors’ intention should be in line with the reader’s expectation.On the other hand,multiple implied meanings in the source language should be transformed into explicit ones in the target language.Considering the differences between English and Chinese texts and their connection with the Relevance Theory,and to achieve an accurate,logical and readable translation for target language audience at the same time,the translator adopts translation skills such as‘speech conversion’,‘translation amplification’ and ‘word order adjustment’ at three levels,namely,lexical,syntax and text levels.By illustrating the problems encountered in translation practice and specifying their solutions,the translator has a deeper understanding of the media works and interviews with sci-fi background,in the hope that this report will make extend contribution to the research of cross-cultural communication in the fields of fashion design and entertainment industry. |
