A Report On The Translation Of The Star Trek Costumes Five Decades Of Fashion From The Final Frontier（Chapter Five）

Both the broadcast of Star Trek TV series and movies the publication of STAR TREK:Costumes Five Decades of Fashion from the Final Frontier have deeply attracted the attention of science fiction lovers,movie fans and costume designers both at home and abroad.After reading the entire book,the translator decided to translate Chapter 5 and write a report on this practice.The purpose of this translation practice report is to analyze and summarize the problems and solutions that the translator encountered in translation practice,to summarize her shortcomings,and to provide translators with feasible translation experiences and methods for translating such information texts,in accordance with Li Changshuan’s “Comprehension,Expression,Adaptation”（CEA）analysis framework.Through the case analysis,it was found that the reasons for the misunderstanding in translation include the translator’s insufficient professional knowledge and inadequate understanding of words;in terms of expression,the translation text fails to convey the information in the original text faithfully,with Europeanized expressions and semantic incompatibility;and in terms of adaption,there are some differences between the source text and the target text,including inappropriate adaption and text style.To tackle the above problems,the translator made a detailed analysis and summary in this report.In terms of comprehension,the translator mainly checked the understanding of specialized vocabulary,phrases and sentences by consulting background knowledge;in terms of expression,the translator mainly focused on the faithfulness of the information in the original text and the consistency of the semantics;in terms of adaptation,the translator mainly focused on flexible adaption to bring a better reading experience to the readers.This report is divided into an introduction and five chapters.Firstly,the introduction part briefly introduces the overall structure of the translation practice report.Secondly,in the translation task part,it expounds the background of the translation materials,the reason for the material selection,the introduction of the original text and analyzes the characteristics and difficulties of the text.Thirdly,in the description of the translation practice process,under the guidance of the CEA framework,the problems encountered are analyzed with examples from three aspects: comprehension,expression and adaptation.Furthermore,solutions are proposed to explore how to adopt appropriate translation methods and techniques to cope with the difficult problems in the translation process.Finally,the thesis summarizes the experience and deficiency in the process of translation practice.
