Abstract/Summary:
Based on the relevant theories of second language learning motivation at home and abroad,this study draws on the previous research results in this field,and combines with the author’s practical teaching experience in the Confucius Institute of Al-Azhar University in Indonesia,taking 321 Chinese major students from three universities in Indonesia as the research objects,and carries out a comprehensive investigation and analysis through questionnaire and interview research methods.This paper explores the intensity of learning motivation of Indonesian Chinese learners and the influence of different factors on motivation,focuses on the trend and characteristics of motivation changes in the two surveys before and after learning Chinese,discusses whether there is a decline in motivation and the causes over time,and finally puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions according to the survey results,to stimulate learners’ learning motivation.The results show that:In the two surveys,the motivation of Indonesian Chinese learners remained at the middle and high level,with an average of more than 3.8.In this study,the differences of grade,age and gender have no significant effect on motivation intensity and motivation dimension.Different schools,ethnic identity,Chinese learning foundation and after-school learning time have an impact on motivation intensity or motivation dimension.The results show that the motivation of Indonesian Chinese learners is declining,and the influencing factors of motivation decline are as follows: teacher factor > learning situation > student factor.Finally,according to the results of the survey and the author’s practical teaching experience in Indonesia,this paper puts forward motivation strategies and teaching suggestions from three aspects of teachers,learners and learning situations.It is hoped that this study can add empirical data for the study of Chinese learning motivation in Indonesia and provide valuable reference for the follow-up researchers.
