The Study On Visual Design Of Marriage Certificates In The Republic Of China

The Republic of China is a critical juncture in Chinese history.It has experienced unprecedented changes in just 38 years,from a closed feudal dynasty to a modern power that widely absorbs Western civilization and artistic movements,and the visual design of marriage certificates mark the complexity of historical transmutation in the Republic of China.This study is based on the primary data that come from the author’ s collections,the collections of friends and network data are used as the auxiliary references.The marriage certificates focus on the Republic of China and refer to the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China,what have universality owing to an enormous span of the time,region and race involved.In the first part,combined with the research status of domestic and international about Chinese marriage certificates,illustrates the significance of selecting the visual design of marriage certificates in the Republic of China,through the hottest trends of vintage and retro.The extant research of the Chinese marriage certificate mainly focus on specific points,such as the history of marriage custom and law,the present catalogues were published for collectors,and no research has been done specially depth analysis for visual design perspective,which shows that the studying space and cultural value are worth exploring about the visual design of marriage certificates in the Republic of China.In the second part,uses the origin,function and evolution of traditional marriage contracts as a starting point from the outside to the inside,the traditional marriage contract stemmed from "Traditional Marriage Rituals" in the pre-Qin area,and transmuted the marriage certificate in the late Qing and early Republic of China,unifying the format in the People’s Republic of China,the relevant appellation changed with social function.In the third part,by expounding the improvement of printing technique effects on the size and visual design of marriage certificates in the Republic of China,with the unique social background and related documents in modern history.Because of the differences in printing equipment and mode,the marriage certificates have differently layout,style and package.Due to western commercial model was introduced,there are lots of Logotypes of printery in the marriage certificates.In the fourth part,organizes the typical marriage certificates in the Republic of China,and sums up main category and arrangement.The samples focus on the pattern and font design of the marriage certificates,and analyses the expressive approach,structural feature,graphic combination and regularities of composition,what are associated to historical background from the perspective of visual design.According to statistics,there are various ways to represent the marriage certificates,such as conventional humanistic and foreign cultural themes in patterns,traditional calligraphy and modern print in fonts,and the method of scatter and focal perspective,which shows that the marriage certificate in the Republic of China is a microcosm for the blending of Chinese and Western Art.In the fifth part,summarizes the evolution,forming reason and comparison of the marriage certificates in the Republic of China,and there is generalization of the nature attribute of visual design.Through research and analysis,the marriage certificates in the Republic of China are mainly divided into three periods: germination,prosperity and transition.The dissemination of new spirits,the improvement of printing technology,and the intersection of Chinese and Western culture are the primary influencing factors of the visual design what thrived in the reform of marriage customs and wedding.By contrasting the marriage certificates between the South and the North in China,it is concluded that they are different in printing,theme and color.When comparing the marriage certificates in the Republic of China with the same period in Western country,and finding the relation between them is unilaterally influencing,which is basically that the former drew on the latter.
