In recent years,core literacy has become a hot topic of research,and thinking quality,as the most critical component of core literacy,has also attracted attention from all walks of life.Reading is an important medium and means for human beings to acquire information,construct meaning and understand the world.In junior high school English courses,English reading occupies an important position and is the dominant course type to cultivate students’ comprehensive language ability.However,under the influence of the traditional educational environment for many years,teachers regard the development of students’ reading skills as the teaching goal,multi-knowledge,light thinking,and do not pay attention to the cultivation of students’ thinking quality of logic,critical attitude and innovation.Therefore,this study takes 50 students in a class of the third grade of a middle school in Jiaohe City as the research object,and explores the two rounds of thinking quality behavior in the process of English reading teaching in this class.The purpose of this research is to explore the practical value of thinking quality cultivation.This study intends to answer the following three questions:(1)How to cultivate students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching in junior high school?(2)What influence will English reading teaching aimed at the cultivation of thinking quality have on students’ thinking quality?(3)What impact will English reading teaching aimed at cultivating thinking quality have on junior high school students’ English reading performance?The author follows the action research process of “planning-action-observationreflection”,starting from the three dimensions of thinking quality cultivation,setting corresponding reading questions to cultivate students’ thinking quality before,during and after reading,and implementing reading teaching.There are many activities can be used during the process,such as combing text structure,predicting content development,judging characters’ viewpoints and appreciating the text content.At the same time,some reading teaching strategies can also play an important role,such as considering text content based on text analysis;digging deep into text and examining original ideas;breaking through thinking mindset in order to expand background knowledge.This pattern conducted two rounds of teaching action research.Through these two rounds of action research,the following conclusions are drawn: English reading teaching aimed at the cultivation of thinking quality is of great significance,not only improving the level of students’ thinking quality,but also greatly enhancing students’ reading ability.It fully shows that this reading teaching activity based on the cultivation of thinking quality has great value in practice,and can provide guidance for the next classroom teaching work.
