| As an important part of core competence,thinking quality has become the focus of researchers and the cultivation of students’ thinking quality has also attracted educators’ attention.However,researches have shown that educators and teachers have different opinions on how to cultivate students’ thinking quality.Moreover,compared with the researches on the cultivation of thinking quality of college students and senior high school students,the researches on junior high school students’ thinking quality are insufficient despite the fact that the period of junior high school is the critical period for the formation of thinking quality.Compared with other subjects,there are few researches on the cultivation of students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching.Nevertheless,English reading teaching is not only an important part of English teaching,but also one of the major ways to cultivate students’ thinking quality.In view of this,this research analyzes the teaching strategies of English reading in junior high school based on the New Version of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives and Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development so as to cultivate students’ thinking quality and improve teaching effect.This research takes the students of a class in Grade 9 of a junior high school in Hefei as the research subjects.The research questions are: Firstly,what are the teaching strategies that are designed in junior high school English reading teaching to cultivate students’ thinking quality? Secondly,what are the effects of these teaching strategies on the cultivation of students’ thinking quality? Thirdly,what are the suggestions for junior high school English reading teaching based on the cultivation of thinking quality?The results show that different strategies need to be used in different aspects of cultivating students’ thinking quality.The strategies for cultivating students’ logical thinking include summarizing the main idea of articles and paragraphs,looking for the related words,retelling the text,identifying the genre of articles and designing mind mapping;The strategies for cultivating students’ critical thinking are guessing word meaning,group discussion,judging ideas and encouraging students to question;The strategies for cultivating students’ creative thinking include brainstorming,writing after reading,advertisement and poster design,reporter interview and designing open questions.In addition,these strategies have a positive impact on students’ reading ability at different levels,especially for the students whose logical thinking is poor.Finally,some suggestions are made for cultivating students’ thinking quality.On the one hand,students’ thinking quality should be cultivated step by step and teachers should design teaching strategies in line with students’ thinking development according to their age characteristics.On the other hand,teachers should care for students’ individual differences.Teachers should pay attention to the existing level of students,meet the needs of students at different levels and flexibly adjust and improve teaching strategies in the light of the specific situation.This research provides a reference for educators on the cultivation of thinking quality. |
