John Everett Millais is one of the founding painters of the Pre-Raphaelites and one of the youngest and most talented painters. The Pre-Raphaelites played an important role in the British painting world,as a turning point from Classicism to Modern Sect,it is not only a process of escaping from Classicism to new art,but also a process of sparks produced by the collision between Modern art and Classical art.The style of Millais’ s works changed greatly in the early and late stages, from early collegialism to anti collegialism, the style of the middle and later works began to return. For example:from the early works Isabella to Ophelia, from The Blind girl to Autumn leaves, and later from Royal Guard Rimanleo to Louise Jopling. From the traditional academic rebellion to the pursuit of true, natural forms and Pre-Raphaelites,And later broke away from the Pre-Raphaelites to become an academician of the Royal Academy of Art,it can be said that his creative style and concept of the early and later stages are contradictory. This article will be divided into three chapters, the first chapter is the rebels of the Pre-Raphaelites,which analyzes Millais from the historical background and literary development respectively, the second chapter explains the contradiction and development process of Millais style in the early and later works through the comparison and research of works in different periods, the third chapter summarizes, explores the opportunity of Millais creative transformation, and expounds the confusion and influence in combination with my own creation. |
