The Research Of Millais' Artworks

In the 19 th century England,there was a the most important art revolution,leading to appear a painting school which has been called Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.John Everett Millais mainly organized it to resist industrialization?materialism and academism.In addition,Millais' artworks are highly attractive for the audiences in the Pre-Raphaelite period and after leaving it,his oeuvre has been displayed his avant-garde ideal and his sophisticated painting skill,most notably in that he adhered to acquire inspiration from fairy tale?poetry?history stories and real life and so on.This paper is composed of six chapters: the first chapter will introduce the research background?the content as the foundation of the whole thesis,which finally leads to the significance of the research,and discusses the innovation points,key points and difficult points;The second chapter will analyze the domestic and international research status as the basis for studying Millais' artworks,by using related theory;The third chapter tend to explore some factors that influence the creation of Millais' paintings,such as the influence of his growing environment,the influence of painting masters' works and the influence of the arts environment at that time;The fourth chapter will discuss Millais theme choice with his paintings which mainly comes from several respects as his creative support such as the Bible?poetry? drama and real life,because when artists select diverse topics,the meaning of their artworks will be different;in the fifth chapter will further study and explore the aspects of Millais' painting form,which is also a primary emphasis of this paper.For instance,through his novel techniques of oil painting,symbolism and the‘real' way of creation,Millais was how to use these forms in his works.The last part will summarize the artistic value of Millais' oeuvre in aesthetics,economy,and society,as well as the beneficial thinking and prospect of art we will absorb.At present,domestic researches mainly focus on the characteristics and the interpretation of Pre – Raphaelite Brotherhood works,while they pay less attention to the characteristics and interpretation of Millais' works.This paper will deeper explore and sort Millais' works?his pursuit and his thought and then analyzes his unique artistic principle,expecting to be able to fill the domestic blank in the research of Millais' paintings.
