From Realism To Symbolism:A Comparative Study Of Millais And Klimt

The purpose of this paper is to compare the creative methods of Millais and Klimt.The scope of the study is to analyze their creative experience from the background to the inspiration,from realism to symbol,from ideas,materials,composition,techniques and other aspects.The individual spiritual needs of artists are based on the complex background,culture and social soil,so they have their uniqueness.But their uniqueness does not mean that there is no common way of thinking.Therefore,I chose two artists who have both similar and different advantages-Millais and Klimt to study their changing ways of thinking in their creation.In addition,it is very important to study the working way of Millais and Klimt through comparison,because it can tell us the common psychological factor and spiritual needs of artists from their creation,so as to explore their creative inspiration.As for the research methods,this paper contains at least three research methods.The first one is Literature Research Method.I investigated relevant knowledge from Zhi Wang and relevant literature.After finding the vacancy of relevant research,I decide to use Literature Research Method.The second way is the Case Analysis Method,that is to analyze the creative method with specific examples.The Third way is Comparative Analysis.I compared the background of their history and various elements to study the transformation and development of their creative methods.Let me introduce the structure of this paper.The first chapter mainly introduce the symbols in the middle ages and the naturalism in the creation of Millais.The second chapter mainly analyzes Klimt’s inspiration,ideas and unique creative methods with specific cases.The third chapter is a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences of Klimt and Millais’ composition,materials,methods and ideas,combined with some examples and backgrounds,so as to summarize some previous experience in order to adapt to the challenges of the times.In terms of research results and achievements,this paper analyzes the creative methods of Millais and Klimt,as well as the influencing factors behind the creative methods,and uses the flow chart to analyze their common psychological factors and spiritual needs.I think this paper has made some breakthroughs in these aspects.However,this paper also has corresponding limitations,such us subjective discussion and lack of data support.Research conclusion(argument):1.Artistic creation cannot be done behind closed doors.It is necessary to find a balance between the needs of the times and personality.2.The creative style of artists is deeply influenced by the integration of the spiritual world and the real world.
