The status and function of grammar teaching in language learning have always been the focus of research on second language acquisition and English teaching in China.The newly revised English Curriculum Standards for General High School(2017 Edition)advocates that grammar teaching should focus on the form,meaning and use of grammar.In order to achieve this goal,different scholars and researchers have done a variety of theoretical and empirical studies,and teachers have also tried various grammar teaching methods and strategies in the classroom.However,cultivating learners’ ability to use grammar appropriately in different contexts is still a problem.Therefore,based on Larsen-Freeman’s three-dimensional grammar,the author constructs three-dimensional grammar teaching model,and applies it to English grammar teaching to explore the effects of three-dimensional grammar teaching model on students’ grammatical ability.Moreover,this author investigates students’ attitudes toward three-dimensional grammar teaching model so as to offer practical pedagogical implications to achieve effective grammar teaching in the classroom.Specifically,the author tries to address two research questions:1.How does three-dimensional grammar teaching model affect students’ grammatical ability?2.What are students’ attitudes toward three-dimensional grammar teaching model?This study was conducted with 100 students in Grade Seven of a junior high school in Wanzhou,Chongqing,and lasted for 10 weeks.Participants were divided into two groups.One was the experimental class,and the other was the control class.Traditional grammar teaching model was adopted in the control class while three-dimensional grammar teaching model was implemented in the experimental class.A pre-test and a post-test were conducted in both classes and a questionnaire survey was conducted in the experimental class.All the data collected were analyzed through SPSS 26.The results indicate that three-dimensional grammar teaching model is more effective to cultivate students’ grammatical ability than traditional grammar teaching model,not only effective to facilitate their mastery of grammar knowledge,but especially effective to strengthen students’ ability to use grammar knowledge in given contexts.In addition,in the investigation of students’ attitudes toward threedimensional grammar teaching model,students show their affection and interest in grammar learning,and show their inclination to learn grammar by themselves in the future.Generally,the application of three-dimensional grammar teaching model is effective to cultivate students’ grammatical ability and it is accepted by students.Therefore,teachers should be encouraged to actively apply three-dimensional grammar teaching model to grammar teaching with different grammar points and at different grades so as to improve the effect of grammar teaching and to cultivate students’ grammatical ability. |
