| The outbreak of coronavirus pneumonia at the end of 2019 has brought great challenges to the education of different countries, and various forms of online teaching have become one of the main emergency measures adopted by the education industry. As an online course that has emerged more than ten years ago,Massive Open Online Courses(MOOCs)plays an important role in Chinese teaching under the Covid-19 pandemic. There’s no rare research on MOOCs in Chinese teaching;however, there are very few studies on micro-videos in MOOCs,especially in grammar MOOCs.After research, the author found that micro-videos are the core component of Chinese grammar MOOCs.The research on application of micro-videos in grammar MOOCs can help us understand the features of grammar MOOCs and provide valuable reference for future grammar MOOCs creation. This paper studies three representative elementary Chinese grammar MOOCs,and examines the usage of micro-videos in these three grammar MOOCs by means of quantitative statistics. It also analyzes the application of different types of micro-videos in grammar teaching and the teaching of specific language points under the instruction of the theory of context and theory of constructivism teaching mode. This paper finds that, according to the characteristics of content and usage of micro-videos,micro-videos in grammar MOOCs can be divided into two categories:scene-based micro-videos and graphic-text micro-videos.The two types of micro-videos play their respective roles in grammar MOOCs,but complement each other to provide support for learners to build language knowledge. The advantage of scene-based micro-videos is that they provide reasonable and rich language scenes for learners, thereby providing sufficient scaffolding to help learners understand the meaning and usage of language points, while graphic-based micro-videos are used to help learners understand the structure of language points and successfully complete grammar exercises.Compared with offline courses,micro-videos not only play a part of the role of teachers and teaching materials in offline teaching, but also make it possible to provide diverse language scenarios that are difficult to provide in offline teaching. They also make the display of various teaching materials more convenient and efficient. However, due to the lack of interactivity of MOOCs and the limitations of micro-videos,grammar MOOCs have shortcomings in the teacher-student and student-student interaction. The ways of improvement in this aspect need to be considered by the designers of grammar MOOCs. |
