A Memetics Study On The Generative Mechanism And Evolution Of Network Violent Language Variants

Network language has always been the hot spot to linguistic researchers.And it has been accepted widely by the public as the social network service websites develop rapidly.Therefore,network language emerges endlessly as well as some network violent language variants.Those network violent language variants have been new structures and forms.And they have been widely used in the online communication because they are humorous,vivid and mild.Meme theory is a new cultural theory,which provides a new perspective for the analysis of socio-linguistics phenomena.Many scholars at home and abroad have conducted studies on network language.However,most studies focus on static descriptions from the synchronic view.So far,few studies have been undertaken on the generative mechanism and evolution research into the network violent language variants.Based on Memetics,this thesis selected some network violent language variants from the incidents of cyber violence between 2011 and 2021 and made an in-depth study on its generation and dissemination.This study made use of qualitative,literature research method,the analysis of corpus and comparative analysis approach and other relevant methodologies,which made a detailed exploration into the generation and transmission of network violent language variants from memetic perspective.This thesis is based on the self-built closed corpus and analyzed the network violent language variants in network communication community.By discussing the generative mechanism and evolution of the network violent language variants,the present study finds:Firstly,seen from different aspects,memes have different types.Generally speaking,memes can be divided into strong memes and weak memes,and only strong memes can be retained in the hosts’ brains and then be transmitted or replicated.At the same time,they can be divided into genotype memes and phenotype memes as well.Language meme as a social phenomenon,it is different from imitation and genes.Secondly,being different from conventional words,those variants of network violent language have new structures and forms,especially some have brand new meaning,which can avoid the insulting mood with the mild expression which decreases the violent morphemes during the process of communication.Thirdly,the network violent language variants have been widely used by netizens because they are mild,vivid and humorous.Apart from the memetic affection on the varieties of network violent languages,there are factors of communication efficiency and communication psychology.By making use of the network language,netizens can save time while they are chatting with each other.Fourthly,the important function of network violent language variants is to release the inside emotions without insulting saying.These kinds of variants have evolved into mood particles to express slight anger emotions mildly.
