The Internet is one of mankind’s greatest inventions of the twentieth century, it has aprofound impact on human life, leading human society entering a new era of Internet culture. With the development of the Internet and the proliferation of netizens, network languageemerged, which has exerted a tremendous impact on traditional language. On the basis ofexisting research results, the study tries to analyze the generation, transmission anddevelopment of the Internet language from a new perspective-Memetics. Memetics is a newtheory based on the Darwinian theory of biological evolution to explain cultural evolution. Asa cultural gene, meme plays an important role in the development of human language. Itsurvives by replication and transmission, and language is one of its carriers. Meme isconducive to the development of language, meanwhile, meme’s reproduction andtransmission rely on language. Network language, the most active element of language isclosely linked to meme, which is copied like a virus, inherited like a gene. Following the lawof "Survival of the Fittest", only those who are tenacious, stable, faithful network languagecan be adopted by the host then get its replication, expression and transmission in the fiercecompetition. This study combines network language with the theory of Memetics to explorethe formation of the network language meme, the process of network language’s replicationand transmission, the replication transmission mechanism of network language, the way bywhich network language adapts to the mechanism and cultural connotations of networklanguage. The study also provides some useful inspiration and reference for the regulation onfuture network language via the analysis of the strong meme and weak meme, predicting thedeveloping trend of future network language. This study is a tentative research on the networklanguage corpus, I hope that it will provide a new way of thinking to the network languagestudy, push the development of Memetics as well.
