Cooperative learning is one of the learning strategies advocated by the newly published English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition).Different teaching strategies can make different influence on students’ comprehension at junior high school in using English.It is not difficult to find that teachers pay more attention to cultivate students’ listening,reading and writing ability but to neglect the expressive ability by observing present condition of English learning and teaching in junior high schools.Therefore,junior high school students are reluctant to take part in class activities during oral English learning.This research focuses on the situation of applying cooperative learning strategy in teaching oral English of junior high schools.Based on group motivation theory and constructivism,the researcher puts forward the following two questions:(1)How does CL influence students’ oral English scores in junior high schools?(2)Can CL promote junior high school students’ performances in oral English class? If yes,in what aspects?The researcher selects an experimental class and a control class from grade 7 at a junior high school in Guangzhou as research objects.Cooperative learning is applied in experimental class with an integrated teaching experiment for one semester.While applying cooperative learning,researcher will adjust teaching activities dynamically,strengthen cooperation in group learning scientifically,give an objective evaluation and feedback for every group on time,grasp the opportunity to implement group cooperation and train oral skills.The results respond to the two research questions.Participants’ scores of oral English from experimental class are enhanced.Members in same groups help mutually in oral English learning and became active in exploring the pronunciation and grammatical composition.It can enhance students’ interest and keep the English classes become harmonious and relaxed.Researcher develops the teaching around student-centered as organizers,instructors,observers and helpers.In addition,it can also inspire teachers’ teaching design and enrich the teachers’ teaching practice.To sum up,cooperative learning is in the position to promote the teaching and learning in oral English of junior middle schools.
