Cooperative learning,as a new learning model advocated by the new curriculum reform,has a significant role in promoting the development of student subjectivity,cultivating students’ collaborative problem-solving skills and promoting students’ friendly communication and development.It is widely used in the current junior high school English teaching practice.Despite its widespread application,it is difficult to avoid problems.At the current stage,the lack of systematic and in-depth understanding of the theoretical knowledge of the model and the lack of concrete planning for its practical operation by teachers and students have caused its application effect to be not significant.At present,in the application of junior high school English classroom,the researches on the status quo and problems of group cooperative learning and the improvement of its effectiveness are insufficient,among which the research from the five factor theory is also relatively limited.Therefore,guided by the Johnson Brothers’ five factor theory,this study compares and analyzes the actual situation of cooperative group learning in current junior high school English classrooms with fiver factors as a way to launch a related investigation.The main research questions are as follows:1.What is the current situation of the application of group cooperative learning in junior high school English classroom? Are there any problems? If so,what are the problems?2.What strategies can be used to improve the effectiveness of its application?In view of the above problems,this study takes the grade one students of a junior high school in Kaizhou District of Chongqing as the research object,and carries out an eight-week survey.Through teacher interview,questionnaire survey and classroom observation,this paper compares the current application of group cooperative learning with five factors.The study found the existing problems of group cooperative learning in junior high school English classroom.The survey shows: 1)low students’ interdependence;2)low face to face promotive interaction;3)individual responsibility between students is quite strong;4)lack of cooperation skills;5)lack of group evaluation.Under the guidance of five factor theory,some strategies were put forward by the author to improve the effectiveness of the application of the cooperative learning in junior high school English classroom.The specific strategies include: constructing a positive interdependent group;2)constructing a positive promoting group;3)helping students master cooperation skills;4)attaching importance to group self-evaluation.Under the guidance of theory,the above strategies will promote the application of group cooperative learning in practice,so as to effectively improve the effectiveness of junior high school English classroom teaching.
