As a language subject,the important purpose of learning English is to master its communicative meaning.On the other hand,oral expression ability is the core carrier of English communication,and listening and speaking are important parts of oral communication,including comprehensive analysis,thinking,problem-solving and other abilities in the process of communication.The New English Curriculum Standard for Primary Schools(2011 Edition)clearly points out in the second-level goal that students can make a brief description of the topics of daily life in simple English.However,some shortcomings still exist in the spoken English teaching in primary schools,such as mechanical practice,lack of differences in teaching methods,mere formality of evaluation system and so on.In order to highlight the dominant position of students in learning,effectively use the English language and develop their thinking character,the author tries to set up a carrier of "Little Orator’s Studio" in primary school English class,mainly by guiding students to carry out "independent and cooperative" oral communication activities in group cooperation to stimulate the internal drive of English learning,improve oral communication ability and cultivate English thinking.This paper takes the fifth graders of a primary school in Hangzhou as the research object and carries out an one-semester teaching experiment,during which the experimental class adopts the "independent and cooperative" oral communication teaching model,while the control class still adopts the traditional oral English teaching method.Questionnaires were conducted on oral English learning interest and cooperative learning in two classes during the experiment,and two school-level oral tests were used as pre-test and post-test to gather experimental data.Through the comprehensive analysis of students’ scores,questionnaire data and interview records,it is found that the students from the experimental class have achieved significant improvement in learning interest,classroom participation,oral test scores and so on.Based on this,the author concludes that the independent and cooperative oral communication teaching strategy based on "Little Orator’s Studio" can not only stimulate students’ interest in learning and improve their oral performance,but also cultivate the cooperative consciousness and ability of primary school students. |
