Research On Chao Gongsu’s Poetry In Southern Song Dynasty

Chao Gongsu,also named Zi Xi,became the scholar in 1140 of Song Dynasty.Chao Gongsu,was a descendant of the CHAO family in the Song Dynasty.After the Jingkang incident,he followed his brother into Sichuan and became an official here.There are 459 poems in his collection named Songshan,most of which were written in Sichuan.These poems show Chao Gongsu’s real living conditions,ideological trends and his friendship as an official under the partial control of Southern Song Dynasty.This paper will take Chao Gongsu and his poetry as the main research object.Through the discussion of the background of the times,ideological characteristics,poetry theme and poetry artistic characteristics,this paper tend to make a comprehensive exploration of Chao Gongsu’s his ideological state,living conditions,and his poetry creation under the special background of Nandu period.Firstly,by using background Method,this paper explored from three aspects: the experiences of poet,family study atmosphere and his intercourse with other poets.On the basis of fully understanding the poet,we can better interpret his ideological personality and poetry creation.Under the influence of culture and the family atmosphere of the times,the thought of Chao Gongsu showing a characteristic of Confucianism,Buddhism hybridities,Confucianism play a dominant role,while Buddhism play a supporting role.Due to the dominant position of Confucianism in his thought,Chao Gongsu showed the concept of emphasizing Tao and neglecting literature in his literary creation,and paid attention to the poetic teaching function.At the same time,he also advocated extensive study of other poets,especially Li Bai and Du Fu.Secondly,the method of textual study is adopted.By reading Chao Gongsu’s poems carefully,I divided his poems into five themes according to their ideological themes: the concerned about country and people;the feelings about life;the longing for retirement life;the praise of family affection and friendship and the description of landscape scenery.Due to the influence of the times and the poet’s own personality,his poetic style deviated from the mainstream poetic style in the early Southern Song Dynasty and showed his own unique poetic style.Meanwhile,the poet enhances the artistry and appeal of poetry by using a variety of rhetorical devices and language art.Finally,This paper tries to make an objective and fair evaluation of Chao Gongsu’s position and research value in the Southern Song Dynasty by discussing his inheritance and development of previous poetry,as well as his shortcomings and deficiencies in poetry content and art.
