Ding Fuzhi Calligraphy And Seal Cutting Art Research

Ding Fuzhi（1879-1949）was an influential calligrapher and seal cutter from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China and one of the founders of Xiling Seal printing society.He is good at poetry,calligraphy,painting and printing,especially in the field of oracle bone inscriptions,calligraphy and seal cutting.This paper makes a comprehensive analysis of Ding Fuzhi’s family background,life,friendship experience,collection works,oracle bone inscriptions,calligraphy and seal cutting works,in order to have a more comprehensive and clear understanding of Ding Fuzhi’s calligraphy and seal cutting art,and guide his creative practice on the basis of understanding and mastering his artistic characteristics.This paper focuses on four chapters:The first chapter explores the reasons and background of the formation of Ding Fuzhi’s calligraphy and seal cutting art through the textual research on Ding Fuzhi’s family background,collection and friends,life stories and so on.Ding Fuzhi was born in a book collection family.His family has a large collection of gold and stone seal cutting.He was influenced by his father and brother’s art and became addicted to printing.He made friends with Jinshi calligraphy and painting and invested in the creation of Xiling Seal society with Wang Fuan and others.The second chapter deeply discusses the formation and characteristics of Ding Fuzhi’s ancient,elegant,meaningful and beautiful calligraphy style from Ding Fuzhi’s oracle bone inscriptions and calligraphy works,and analyzes the reasons why he introduced oracle bone inscriptions into the painting for the first time.The third chapter comprehensively analyzes the formation and characteristics of Ding Fuzhi’s seal cutting style,and deeply studies his inheritance and innovation of ancient law from the seal book compiled by Ding Fuzhi and Ding Fuzhi’s seal cutting works in the legacy of the old man in Helu,combined with his view of seal printing.The fourth chapter,based on the in-depth understanding and grasp of the artistic characteristics of Ding Fuzhi’s oracle bone inscriptions calligraphy and seal cutting,draws lessons from his brushwork and knife technique to guide his artistic practice,and tries to introduce Ding Fuzhi’s oracle bone inscriptions calligraphy into seal cutting creation and ox bone carving.
