| Xu Wuwen was a leading calligrapher and seal carver in the twentieth century,and he was widely involved in classical literature,philology,calligraphy and painting.This paper focuses on the reasons for the formation of Xu Wuwen’s seal script style in terms of time,region,and pedigree,and analyzes the different types of his seal script in terms of brushwork,structure,chapter style,and style.Through a comparative study of the path of his seal script mastery with Li Si of the Qin Dynasty,Li Yang Bing of the Tang Dynasty,Deng Shiru of the Qing Dynasty,Wang Fu’an of the Republic of China,and the brick inscriptions of the Han Dynasty,we will gain a deeper understanding of Xu Wuwen’s adherence to and innovation of the jade seal script style,and explore his philosophy of "rooted in seal script,moistened by poetry" and "the past does not misbehave with the times,and the present is not the same as the past".The article explores Xu Wuwen’s philosophy of learning calligraphy.Through the study of Xu Wuwen’s calligraphic path,the article provides a clear path for the author to follow in his study and creation.Taking his view of calligraphy as an inspiration,I try to create different styles of calligraphy and seal engraving works by combining my own experience in calligraphy and the practice of seal engraving with calligraphy. |
