The Theory Of "Shuowen" And The Creation Of Seal Script In

According to the traditional concept, accompany by the remarkable development of seal script in Qianlong and Jiaqing period, Shuo Wen Jie Zi(SWJZ)research system cannot be ignored. However, we haven’t found any academic works on this subject until now. Actually no one can afford to neglect the connection between them. If we attempt to investigate the seal character Qian-Jia period, SWJZ research will be an appropriate starting point.This dissertation is based on the perspective and importance of SWJZ. The writing techniques are “event-based historical records” and “from event to people historical records”. The research purpose of this thesis is to reproduce the scene of seal script creation in Qian-Jia period to some extent, discuss its pros and cons, analysis the theoretic value and practical meaning of creative techniques. The following are all aspects of content:In the part of introduction, it shows origins and related terms of this dissertation first. Next, it explains the material structure and research methods. And then it clarifies the purpose and overall idea.Chapter One,SWJZ Research and Seal Script in Early Qing Dynasty.It includes the following several aspects: Gu Yanwu’s pilot study. The publishing and style of Ji Gu Ge Ben by Mao family. And Wang Shu’s seal script creation.Chapter Two,The Influences of SWJZ on Seal Script Creation in Qian-Jia Period.It contains these aspects: Dai Zheng, Duan Yucai and Gui Fu’s study impact on seal script. The proofreading, publishing and the study of searching–word rules of SWJZ also influence seal script. And the counterforce from seal script creation to SWJZ research.Chapter Three, SWJZ Scholars’ Seal Script Creation of Qian-Jia Period.It focuses on the academic thinking, research, creation methods, styles of Sun Xingyan, Hong Liangji, Qian Dian. And it also analyzes their common questions.Chapter Four, Deng Shiru’s Research ofSWJZAnd His Gainsand Losses of Seal Script Creation.It discusses the questions like how did Deng learn from ancient stelas, what does his manuscript SWJZ look like, Why he used clerical script brush to create seal script which method violates the six categories, etc.Chapter Five,Other kinds of Seal Script Creation Based on SWJZ.Yang’s seal script is so special. It explains the Origins, backgrounds, characteristics of these two types of seal script.The conclusion generalizes the main argument, and puts forward the author’s opinions of relevant questions and research methodologies.In addition,this appendixes are two tables: Table of glyph comparison between the Tang dynasty manuscript SWJZ, Song Dynasty Block-printed and Yuan Dynasty amended edition, and Ji Gu Ge Ben. Another table records glyph comparison between Li Si and Li Yangbin’s seal script and SWJZ.
