China’s picture books are in the early stages of development, with imported books dominating the market and original local picture books accounting for 5% of the total. With the liberalisation of the three-child policy, the market needs a wide range of picture books to meet the reading needs of different children.Wordless picture books,as a novel and special presence in picture books, can be said to maximise the expressive power of "language" possessed by images.Ninety per cent of existing research focuses on the educational function of wordless picture books, partly in terms of the application of teaching strategies and partly in terms of children’s interpretation of them, but there is very little theory on the nature of wordless picture books as a division of the visual arts, and even less on their eventual integration into creative work.children’s viewing precedes language, and children’s wordless picture books in particular highlight the importance of ’images’.Based on children’s visual aesthetic perception, this article explores the artistry of the pictorial language of children’s wordless picture books from the perspective of art and design,in order to raise awareness of the artistry of children’s wordless picture books in the field of picture books, with certain innovative and practical implications. On the other hand, the author distills and applies the theory to the creation of children’s wordless picture books, adding a "silent" star to the few children’s wordless picture books in China and providing reference and inspiration for subsequent researchers in the field to analyse and create artistic children’s wordless picture books.
