On Cao Hongxun’s Epigraphy Activities And Style Of Writing

Abstract/Summary:
In the revival of epigraphy in the late Qing Dynasty,Weixian scholar headed by Chen Jieqi were skilled in searching and collecting stone tablets inscriptions.Hongxun Cao was Chen’s student,which was recorded in Pan Wenqin’letter.Chen admired Cao Hongxun’s calligraphy and invited him to specialize in writing.Most of the handed down books are about Cao Hongxun’s political achievements.Ding Xitian’s collection of Yijianzhai poems and essays is recorded in the catalogue of Weixian literature series,but the text is not recorded.The collection of "four family letters" in the national library is not only a historical material for studying the record of epigraphy fashion in the late Qing Dynasty,but also provides a factual basis for the collection,appreciation and communication research of Wang Liansheng,duanfang,Wu Dacheng and Cao Hongxun.This paper makes an textual research on this letter to supplement the study of epigraphy in Wei County,analyzes the calligraphy style of the letter and its copy,and discusses its reference to my calligraphy creation.The first chapter briefly summarizes Cao Hongxun’s family background and life;The second chapter introduces Cao Hongxun’s epigraphy cultural circle under the background of epigraphy fashion in the late Qing Dynasty,starting from the four aspects of his relationship with teachers,friends,disciples and businessman,especially his letter to businessman Pei Yiqing,so as to investigate the Jinshi trade in Weixian County in the late Qing Dynasty;The third chapter,starting from the regular script and runningscript,looks at the method and reference of his letters;The fourth chapter analyzes and draws lessons from his calligraphy concept,and applies it to my calligraphy practice.
