Related to human cognition and experience,narrative is sequential.Narratology is the theory of narrative that is influenced by structuralism,including stories,narrators,narrative discourse,and critical methods.As a British scholar,Mona Baker has made outstanding theoretical contributions to the combination of narrative and translation.Mona Baker combines her narrative theory with translation,providing a new perspective for translational cross-cultural studies.The original text of this translation practice is selected from the book Storytelling Rights by Amy Shuman,a professor of English at The Ohio State University.Amy Shuman is mainly engaged in folklore,narrative and critical theory and his related works are widely praised by readers.Based on Mona Baker’s narrative theory,this translation task consists of the preface and the second chapter.The translation report makes a detailed analysis of the selected translations,and discusses how to use the four narrative construction strategies proposed by Mona Baker including time and space construction,selective use of text materials,symbolic construction and repositioning of characters and events in translation to construct a narrative.
