Nowadays, people’s psychological problems are receiving more and more attention and depression has become a worldwide problem. However, compared to developed countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States,China does not pay enough attention to depression, and there is not enough variety of books on depression. Therefore, through this translation practice activity, the author hopes to call for academic attention to the translation of texts in the field of depression and promote the diversity of translation practice and research. This translation practice material is selected from Conceptualization and Treatment of Depression-Dialogues between Psychodynamics and Cognitive Behavioral Perspectives. The source text is a medical text, which is highly generalized, objective and rational. In the expression, the structure is rigorous, the logic is strict, and the level is clear. In addition, there are many terms in the source text, and the author needs to pay attention to the professionalism and technicality of the terminology, and whether it conforms to the international standard.Communicative translation and semantic translation are two basic strategies of British translator Newmark’s translation theory.Communicative translation attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.Sematic translation attempts to render,as closely as the semantic and syntactic structures of the second language allow, the exact contextual meaning of the original.Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation strategies are widely used in translation practice and have guiding significance for the study of medical text translation. This report is based on the E-C translation of medical text, which is divided into five parts. The first part is a description of the translation task, including the source of the text, the characteristics of the text and the significance of the study. The second part is a description of the translation process, including the preparation before translation, the handling of problems during translation, and the proofreading after translation. The third part is an introduction to communicative translation and semantic translation theory. The fourth part is a translation case study, which analyses the translation difficulties encountered by the author in the process of translation at three levels, including vocabulary, syntax and discourse, and explores the corresponding translation methods and techniques. The fifth part is a summary of the translation practice, which summarizes the author’s gains and shortcomings in this translation practice,as well as the direction of future efforts.
