| The book,Sustainable Land Management in a European Context, takes European cities for example to discuss the problems of sustainable land management and their solutions. This report selects Chapters 16 to 18 of the book as translation practice material.Under the guidance of the Skopos theory, especially its three principles, the report analyzes some cases from the perspectives of lexis, syntax and discourse. The source text is an informative text with a large number of terms. In order to accurately convey the information in the source text, the author follows the fidelity rule and adopts literal translation plus annotation, conversion of part of speech and semantic extension to make the translation faithful to the source text.Since there are many long and complex sentences in the source text, the author uses amplification, omission and adjustment of word order to clarify the logical order of sentence, following the Skopos rule. The discourse translation under the guidance of the coherence rule helps to improve the acceptability and readability of the translation, thus the author uses cohesive devices and recasting to achieve coherence in translation. The report aims to analyze the application of the Skopos theory to this translation project and then make a reflection and summary. The author has gained a lot from this practice and hopes that this report can provide reference for the translation of informative texts. |
