The report is based on the E-C translation of Chapters 1 to 10 of The River at Green Knowe, and the selected work totals 12369 English words. The book is written by Lucy Boston,a well-known British author of children’s literature, and is not yet available in Chinese translation. It tells the story of the adventures of Ada,Oscar and Ping in Green Knowe. This book inspires children that we should never stop exploring and learning. The River at Green Knowe boasts distinctive features and bears a unique style of writing.Characters go through a dynamic stage of growth,so most of them are round characters. In other words, confronting different environments and different people, they often show different character traits. Therefore, the translator should try to recreate the interest of the work, retain the vivid and concise characteristics of the source language and focus on creating a well-rounded portrayal of characters. Moreover, the translator should also make efforts to achieve the function of literary education in the process of translation. The report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter depicts the background and significance of the project, the layout of the report as well. The second chapter introduces the process of translation practice in detail from three aspects: preparation, while translation and post translation. The third chapter mainly introduces the sociosemiotic approach to translation.Chapter four is the case study. The translator selects and analyzes typical examples, demonstrating methods and strategies adopted to translate children’s literature under the guidance of the sociosemiotic approach to translation. The last chapter summarizes the experience gained in translating the children’s literature, that is,the translation of children’s literature should be children-oriented and be faithful to the interest, the function of the literary education and the aesthetic value of children’s literature. And under the guidance of the sociosemiotic approach to translation, the translator adopted translation methods, including literal translation and free translation, and so forth,to realize the equivalence of referential meaning, intralingual meaning and pragmatic meaning. Moreover, the translator polished her translation and summarized the translation experience, hoping to provide some reference for the translation of children’s literature.
