Nowadays, increasing people become interested in history. Some questions such as ‘What is history exactly?’ and ‘How should we define the history?’ have drawn people’s attention. However, there are relatively less books abut history philosophy than books of other genre. The source text of this report is the excerpt from Rethinking History, written by Keith Jenkins, who aimed to arouse readers’ awareness to think about how to define history.Based on the analysis, the writer finds that there are large numbers of parentheses, which are the biggest obstacle in the translating process. After contrasting varieties of translating theories, the writer thinks that the Eco-translatology theory can guide the parentheses translation. In terms of case study, the writer divides the parentheses in this source text into four categories including exemplification, annotation, indication and addition, which are the indispensable element of the translational eco-environment.The translation methods adopted by the writer mainly involve adaptive retention, adaptive omission, adaptive transformation and adaptive replacement. In this report, the writer especially explores what constitute the translational eco-environment.In the end,the writer offers some suggestions based on the limitations of this study, hoping to find out feasible methods for the translation of parentheses and enlighten translators on the translation of punctuation marks.
