Cultural Representation In Interpretation Of Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conference From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

This thesis selects several excerpts and relevant political speeches from Premier Li Keqiang’s 2017-2021 Press Conferences during the two sessions of the NPC and CPPCC and makes an illustrative analysis of these materials.The thesis adopts the methods of data collection and illustration analysis.The thesis intends to make a thorough research of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference from the perspective of interpretive theory.It aims to explore the cultural representation in both source text and target text,i.e.,how the interpretation version has reproduced the original Chinese culture and to what degree it has preserved the original culture,so as to promote the dissemination of fine traditional Chinese culture.Moreover,this thesis enriched the research perspective of interpretation studies of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conference.After discussing cultural reproduction from three levels,the thesis has found: 1)The cultural representation in lexical level is mostly expressions with Chinese characteristics.Usually,such terms have fixed statements and contain certain cultural thoughts and political ideas.2)Cultural representation in syntactic level is based on the rules and structures of two languages,achieving the understanding through grammatical changes and some translation strategies.3)The cultural representation in rhetorical level is to express the rhetorical effect in the targeted language,spread culture and call for resonance.The interaction of the three makes the interpretation set sail on the road of cultural communication.Through the analysis,it is undeniable that the theory delivers a good performance on cultural representation.However,it can not fully guide cultural representation,so the interpreter should be flexible rather than mechanical.
