The general high school English curriculum standard points out that the promotion of cultural awareness can promote international communication and form cross-cultural communicative competence.The cultivation of cultural awareness is very important in high school English education,but under the background of exam-oriented education,the cultivation of cultural awareness is not satisfied.Based on the cross-cultural communication theory and schema theory,the study investigates the cultivation of the cultural awareness in senior high school English teaching through questionnaires,classroom observation,and interviews,and selects200 students and 4 English teachers from Grade one and Grade two of Senior High school as the research objects.The research questions are:(1)What’s the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in senior high school English teaching?(2)What are the factors that affect the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness by senior high school English teachers? Based on the above research methods,the author finds that teachers do not pay much attention to the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness in classroom teaching;The teaching method is monotonous in cultivating students’ cultural awareness in the classroom;Teachers seldom expand the cultural knowledge related to the cultivation of students’ cultural awareness;The teaching activities are dull related to the cultivation of cultural awareness in the classroom;Students spend less time on cultural knowledge learning.The existing factors are as follows: schools do not attach much importance to the cultivation of cultural awareness;Teachers’ cultural awareness is poor and students’ weak.To solve the existing problems,based on the goal of cultural awareness cultivating in the new curriculum standard,the author puts forward some suggestions from the aspects of schools,teachers and students.Schools should provide more opportunities for teachers to cultivate their cultural awareness and create a campus with a strong English cultural atmosphere.Teachers should adopt a variety of cultural awareness training methods in the classroom,set the teaching goal of cultural consciousness,improve the teaching methods of English culture,deeply excavate teaching materials and use them flexibly,and improve their own cultural literacy.Students should consciously expand the amount of cultural knowledge,stimulate learning motivation and cultivate a positive attitude.The investigation aims to deepen the understanding of high school English teachers on the cultivation of cultural awareness,and helps them better integrate culture into teaching in the classroom,so as to improve the quality of English teaching on the cultivation of cultural awareness in high school English teaching.
