Cultural Awareness embodies the value orientation of the Core Literacy of English subjects.It has been clearly stated in the New English Curriculum of 2017 that the goal of culture knowledge teaching should aim to promote the formation and development of students' cultural consciousness;therefore,it is one of the goals of English teaching in senior high school to cultivate students' cultural awareness through the teaching of cultural knowledge in senior high school English teaching.Culture needs not only the accumulation of cultural knowledge,but also the deep understanding of its connotation.To cultivate students' cultural awareness is to explore the root of different cultures of all nationalities and countries.Mastering the full knowledge of Chinese and western culture and identifying with excellent culture is helpful to the formation and development of the core accomplishment of English discipline.In this study,200 students and 10 teachers were selected from a senior middle school in C city.The paper is based on Constructivism Theory,Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis Theory and Intercultural Communication Theory.The main research instruments employed to collect data include questionnaire,classroom observation and interview.This paper intends to investigate the current situation of cultural awareness training and the constraining factors that affect the cultivation of cultural awareness in English teaching of senior high school.The investigation has been carried out among randomly selected students and teachers.The study found that some students' idea of seeking knowledge is not strong,and most teachers still have been adopting the traditional teaching patterns of “teaching-recital-examination”,the education management department pays little attention to the cultivation of culture consciousness in English teaching of senior high school.The factors that influence the cultivation of cultural consciousness are as follows: students' concept,teachers' accomplishment,education environment and national culture.Finally,the author puts forward some suggestions for the cultivation of cultural awareness in English teaching of senior high school:improving teachers' cultural literacy;taking a variety of measures;carrying out teachingaround cultural knowledge;guiding students to treat culture correctly;preventing blind imitation.
