This is a practical report on the E-C translation of the excerpts from13 Little Blue Envelopes,a book of young adult literature by an American author,Maureen Johnson. The novel is a realistic teenage work which was published in 2005.It mainly focuses on Ginny, the 17-year-old American girl who follows her aunt’s letters and begins a whirlwind trip to Europe without a travel guide, extra money,or even electronics, and grows in maturity as she goes along. The translation practice was carried out under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory. The report mainly analyzes some cases in13 Little Blue Envelopes from the lexical, syntactical and discoursal levels to explore the problems that may be encountered and what the methods and techniques can be used to achieve equivalence between the translated text and the source text to translate it in a way that is easy to understand and lively,so that the target readers can have the same reading experience as readers of the source language.Through the translation practice, the translator, guided by Nida’s theory of Functional Equivalence, has fully applied the theory she has learned to practice which not only strengthens her understanding of the theoretical knowledge but also enhances translation practice. It is hoped that the translation practice report will provide a useful reference for other relevant research of young adult literature.
