| English Curriculum Standard(2017 version)for General Senior High School stated that strengthening student’ English core competencies is a vital choice.It advocates students to cultivate language ability,thinking ability and cultural awareness through learning and comprehension,application and practice,and transference and innovation activities under the guidance of teachers from the Perspective of Activity-based English Learning.Teachers adopted this perspective to the whole teaching activities design,so as to urge students to think and solve problems,and actively adjust their emotion and attitudes.At present,more and more teachers have gradually applied this perspective in junior high school.This study attempts to explore the characteristics of the teaching activities design and impacts of this perspective on teaching activities design.It mainly discusses the following two research questions:1.What are the characteristics of the teaching activities design of English teachers in junior high school?2.What impacts does the Perspective of Activity-based English Learning have on English teachers’ teaching activities design in junior high school?A case study of five English teachers of Grade 8 in a junior high school was adopted for an in-depth research.Teaching activities design,classroom observation and interview were employed as the research instruments.Research findings show that there are several similarities in the 5 teachers’ English teaching activities design based on this perspective.The five teachers mainly designed activities involving linguistic knowledge and language skills,while lacked the activities of cultivating students’ cultural awareness and thinking ability.The five English teachers all designed more learning and comprehension abilities than application activities and innovation activities.Research findings also show a distinction between rich experience and novice teachers: the teachers with rich experience have a positive attitude to the perspective,and they can closely combine the perspective with teaching activities design to improve the quality of their teaching.As for the impacts of the Perspective of Activity-based English Learning on teaching activities design,all the five teachers affirmed the positive impacts of the perspective and yet confirmed that it is a challenge for teachers’ professional ability to fully infiltrate the perspective into English teaching,according to the current teaching situation.Therefore the researcher puts forward the following suggestions: junior middle school English teachers should maintain a positive attitude towards the perspective of activity-based English learning and pay attention to the balance of the four key abilities in English teaching design;teachers should design teaching activities in various ways and not divorced from students’ real life. |
