Research On Chongqing "Youth Music" Periodicals（1942）

In 1937,the Japanese army sacked Shanghai and confronted Nanjing.In 1940,the National Government decreed Chongqing to be the accompanying capital,which was to function as the capital and lead the nation in the war effort.Chongqing was the most economically developed and industrially advanced city in the southwest at the time,and it had the capacity to host the National Government and a large number of people diving in,including many musicians and patriots,as well as leading to the development of socio-economic and cultural activities.As an art publication during the war period,Youth Music mainly publishes songs,music-related intellectual literature,articles on historical responsibilities and historical missions related to national music;it serves the cause of the war effort and publishes war songs with a strong focus.The target audience is the youth of the country,calling on everyone to join the war effort and contribute to the great cause of reviving our nation;it is aimed at the people,giving them spiritual food and hope for life;it emphasises musical propaganda activities and is dedicated to training amateur musicians into professional artistic talents,while focusing on the promotion of general musical knowledge.The creators of this journal are professional musicians,and contributors include teachers and students from the National Conservatory of Music as well as professional teachers from other regions.As a result,the publication’s content is of high quality and professionalism,contributing to the musical and cultural development of Chongqing.This paper takes Music for Youth as the object of study,systematising and thoroughly researching the contents of this period.The introductory part is based on the collection of previous data,sorting into the current state of research at home and abroad,and defining the research objectives,research methods and significance of the study.Chapters 1 to 2 are the main part of the article,which provides an overall overview of the publication from its inception to its discontinuation,and the article is classified in terms of content and the songs are divided according to the type of subject matter.Finally,on the basis of the contents of the first two chapters,a multi-perspective observation and analysis is made to form a value proposition for the journal and to point out its shortcomings.As one of the few professional music publications in Chongqing during the war period,Youth Music has left a profound mark on the development of music and the professional music business during the war period.Its content is published in a way that requires scholars to dig deeper and explore,and the information it conveys is a testimony to history and has important reference and theoretical value.This journal caters to the times,is in close contact with the masses,and actively works with the needs of the war effort to cultivate talent.Among similar music publications,Youth Music reveals the co-existence of professionalism and artistry,relevance and popularity,and its indelible contribution to the literary art of the war effort,a successful example of literary propaganda in a special period.The author hopes that the study of Youth Music will be of some value to the exchange and dissemination of war music culture in the southwest,to provide a glimpse into the musical life of wartime Chongqing,and to gain historical experience of music dissemination.
