| The English curriculum standards for compulsory education in China(2011)require junior high school students to have the initial ability to apply English comprehensively through their English studies at junior secondary level,which requires students to develop their English listening,speaking,reading and writing skills at the same time.The most important of these is writing,which,as a form of communication,is not only considered an integral part of English language teaching.But it is also one of the most important skills that students must master.Mind Mapping,invented by Tony Buzan in the 1970 s,is a tool for transmitting divergent thinking.It can not only help people process information and consolidate memories,but also develop divergent thinking ability and develop the full potential of the human brain.Therefore,this paper mainly explores the application of mind mapping in English writing teaching,aiming to put forward a more effective and practical English writing teaching method,proving that it can fully stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in English writing and improve teaching efficiency.This study focused on the teaching of English writing in junior high school and applied Mind Mapping to the teaching of English writing in Xining No.13 high School.The experiment lasted for 13 weeks and was conducted in two classes from Grade 9,ensuring that both classes used the same teaching materials and were taught by the same teacher.Class 1 was the experimental class with 38 students and used a thinking map-based approach to teaching writing.Class 2,the control class,had 35 students and was taught using the traditional writing method.Data were collected through interviews,questionnaires and tests,and a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used to investigate the following three questions:1.What are the problems of English writing teaching and learning in Junior high School ?2.What effects can be produced by applying Mind Mapping have on students’ attitude towards English writing?3.How can Mind Mapping teaching method improve the students’ scores towards English writing ?At the end of the experiment,the questionnaire data and the pre and post test scores of the writing test were analyzed and judged by using SPSS 19.0 software.The results of the interviews with students and teachers were concluded by analyzing the results of the conversations and the following conclusions were drawn: 1.Students’ interest and confidence in English writing was increased 2.Mind mapping can improve students’ writing performance 3.Teachers’ conceptions of teaching writing A change in teachers’ perceptions of teaching writing.The mind mapping method is feasible and beneficial in teaching English writing.Although there are still some limitations in this study.However,there is no doubt that the application of thinking maps in teaching English writing in junior high school has been proved to be feasible.It is hoped that future research by scholars will be more comprehensive and deeper. |
