Writing is not only one of the four basic skills of English learning,but also an indispensable part of English teaching.For junior high school students,English writing is very important in the entrance examination and future development.However,through reading literature,class observation and evaluation of students’ compositions,the researcher found that in the current junior high school English teaching,traditional writing teaching method could not effectively stimulate students’ interests in writing and improve their writing ability.Mind mapping is a visual thinking tool proposed by Tony Buzan in the 1960 s.It has been applied to English writing teaching at home and abroad,mostly in college and high school,and seldom in junior high school.Therefore,this paper applies mind mapping to English writing teaching in junior middle school and aims to explore the following questions:1.How does the application of mind mapping to English writing teaching in junior high school affect students’ writing performance?2.How does the application of mind mapping in English writing teaching in junior high school affect students’ attitudes toward writing?The study lasted for four months,from March to June in 2019.Two classes of students in Grade 7 with a number of 80 students have been chosen as the participants of the empirical study.Class 1 is randomly selected as the experimental class and Class 2 the controlled class.The participants in two classes have similar English learning background and English proficiency.Writing test and questionnaire are used in the experiment.The experiment results prove that the writing teaching method of mind mapping will help promote students’ writing performance and enhance their interests in writing.Therefore,mind mapping can not only help students effectively sort out their writing thoughts,organize the structure of the articles and improve their writing ability,but also improve students’ interests in writing and develop their good writing habits. |
