This is a translation report.The source text is Part II “Exacerbating inequalities”excerpted from COVID-19 Volume I: Global Pandemic,Societal Responses,Ideological Solutions(Excerpted).The author is Michael J.Ryan,a former trauma surgeon and current epidemiologist in Ireland,who has served in the World Health Organization for a long time.The main content of the excerpt is the economic,political,medical and educational inequalities in the global society against the background of COVID-19.This report is divided into five parts.The first chapter introduces the translation background,significance and the structure of the project.The second chapter discusses the author,main contents and the style and linguistic features of the source text.The third chapter is the whole translation process,including the preparations for background information before the translation,preparations for guiding theory,the translation difficulties and relative solutions during the translation and the conclusion after translation.Chapter four is the translation theory—Eco-translatology.Chapter five the key part of this project,analyzing translation difficulties and relevant solutions.According to Eco-translatology,translation difficulties are three-dimensional shift:linguistic,cultural and communicative shifts.As for the linguistic shift,translation difficulties mainly include terminologies,the grammar structure of “adverb + adjective(+noun/preposition)”,polysemous words,the complement of background knowledge of words and the choice among different translation versions and non-restrictive attributive clauses.When it comes to cultural shift,translation difficulties are political and social institutions,religion and the ways of thinking.As regard to communicative shift,translation difficulty is the expression of tone and feeling of the source text.The translation methods include: literal and free translation,conversion,division and restructure,syntactic linearity,addition and omission and etc.Chapter six is the summary after translation,which are the enlightenment gained from the translation and limitations during the whole process.
