Mid 19 th century,Japan was faced with internal and external troubles and had to open its long-closed doors and embark on the development of capitalism.In the historical environment of the great worldwide migration wave,many Japanese people opened the way to migrate overseas,and the United States became one of the important destinations for Japanese immigrants.After arriving in the United States,Japanese immigrants engaged in different occupations,including agriculture,commerce,industry,oyster farming,service industry,etc.,and gradually grew in strength.Japanese immigrants made up for the labor shortage in the United States,and to a certain extent,contributed to the development of the American economy,while at the same time triggering the powerful anti-Japanese movement in the United States.The paper consists of an introduction,a body,and a conclusion,and the body is divided into three parts.The first part,an overview of Japanese immigration to the United States,describes the background,phasing,and composition of Japanese immigration to the U.S.In the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries,Japan began to organize its own residents to emigrate overseas.By tracing their background,phasing,and composition,we analyze the background of Japanese immigrants’ economic activities in the United States.The second section,Major Economic Activities of Japanese Immigrants in the United States,focuses on agricultural farming,urban commerce,industrial activities,oyster farming,and service industries.The narrative of specific economic activities carried out by Japanese immigrants in the U.S.demonstrates the diversity of occupations and the changing economic status of Japanese immigrants in the U.S.The third part of the role and impact of economic activities of Japanese immigrants in the U.S.Japanese immigrants have become an important addition to the U.S.labor market with the advantages of wide occupational distribution and low labor compensation.However,with the gradual expansion of Japanese immigrants’ economic activities,local whites became dissatisfied with them,which not only triggered the exclusion movement,but also prompted the government to introduce relevant exclusion bills. |
