| Immigration related research has been a pivotal branch in history study. Most Chinese scholars have focused their attention on Chinese immigration and few also set foot in the study of Mexican Immigration. We know Cuban immigrants have exerted subsubstantial political influence in both U.S. Immigration policy-making and its relation with Cuba. However, we did not attach great importance to Cuban Immigration study in China.The majority of scholars believe that massive immigrations after 1959 was only due to those radical reforms adopted by Castro Government. As a matter of fact, there were more complicated underlying reasons behind that.Each massive immigration tide brought great impacts to American society. To reduce those impacts to the lowest level was a priority for each administration. Due to their special influence, Cuban immigrants were able to get preference when U.S. government was making immigration policies. However, that did not last long. Refugees came from Maril in 1980 drastically changed Americans' veiws towards Cuban immigrants.Economically speaking, we can say that Cuban immigrants are successful in this regard. Cubans gathered in Great Miami Area during 1960s and 1970s, and created a new from of economic pattern with its own feature. Cubans in Miami were doing business concentrated on those light industries like textile, leather, and funiture. Because of its presence, we had witnessed increasing trade contacts between Southern Florida and Ladin America. Data from various economic index showed that Cubans immigrants were only second to local whites when it comes to living standard.Cuban's success in economic domain was tightly linked with its population characteristics. This article is trying to analyse the population characteristics of Cuban imiigrants based on five categories, namely gender, race, occupation and income, education and children bearing to prove the assumption that population characteristics have something to do with economic success. |
