This report is based on an English-Chinese translation project of the literature of children’s Chinese literacy.The source text focuses on the factors that affect and predict children’s reading and writing skills and covers a wide range of areas such as pedagogy and psychology.The entrusting party entrusted the author to translate the English academic materials on children’s Chinese literacy,in order to serve her own research.The source text belongs to the category of academic literature and is an informative text.The language is accurate,concise,logical,scientific and objective in content and standardized in form.According to Newmark’s text type theory,different text types should adopt different translation methods.For translating informative and evocative texts,communicative translation strategy is recommended.This practice report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is task description,which mainly introduces the background and significance of the project,and the source text.The second chapter describes the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and proofreading after translation.The third chapter focuses on Newmark’s text type theory and its application in the translation of source text.The fourth chapter analyzes the specific cases in the process of translation from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and text.The lexical part focuses on the translation of terms and part of speech conversion.The syntactic part mainly focuses on voice conversion,reconstruction,the translation of attributive clause and addition;At textual level,this part uses reiteration and conjunction to achieve coherence and cohesion.The last Charpter is conclusion,pointing out the shortcomings and lessons of this translation practice report,as well as the translation experience of this text type.It is hoped that this paper can provide some translation cases and reference for those engaged in the translation of such topics in the future.
