The Annals of New Nations is a historical romance novel written by Feng Menglong in the Ming Dynasty on the basis of his dissatisfaction with Biography of Chronicles of Nations by Yu Shaoyu.It describes the vicissitudes of life in the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period,and shows the rise and fall of the eastern Zhou States.During this period,various vassal states fought with each other,and historical events and figures emerged one after another.Through the shaping of the images of scholars in the novel,the author embodied his own political and moral ideas,which reflected not only the historical representation but also his reflection on history.This paper mainly studies the image of scholars in The Annals of New Nations.The thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which describes the source and basis of the topic selection,the purpose and significance of the research,the summary of current research results,the origin and development of scholars and the definition of the concept of scholars.The second chapter is the introduction of the basic types of image of scholars in the novel,which are mainly divided into two categories,warrior and scholar.The typical images are selected and analyzed respectively,in order to understand the personality characteristics of scholars in detail.The third chapter is the exploration of the spiritual style of the scholar’s image,which consists of three parts,the positive feelings of joining the wto,the spiritual pursuit beyond material desire and the subject consciousness of neither servility nor supervention.The fourth chapter reveals the significance of writing the image of scholars in the novel from the perspective of the author’s creation.It includes the author’s political thought and moral idea and the enlightenment function of regulation and regret expostulation.The fifth chapter analyzes the artistic techniques used to create the image of the scholars in the novel from five aspects,such as embellishment,romance,contrast,detail description and dialogue language,and highlights the literary value of The Annals of New Nations among similar historical and romantic novels.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which aims to summarize the main idea and summarize the whole paper.Appendix is a list of statistics of scholars types. |
