| Translation is a cross-language,cross-cultural communication activities.Language is the carrier of culture, and culture is rooted in language.Because of the difference of language and culture,it can be said that the loss of translation exists in the translation process all the time, how to minimize the loss in the translation process? This is a question that the translator cannot avoid.Other Words: American Indian literature,Law,and Culture aims to explore both the fusion and conflict of American Indian culture with that of Western culture. The translation of these important, firsthand views will help to promote our understanding and appreciation of the modern-day issues facing American Indians, and thus justify its translation value. The author selected this text because it is a culturally relevant academic work. The original material is selected from the third chapter of the book, which contains a significant amount of colloquial vocabulary.According to Nida’s classification standard of culture loaded words, the native words in the text can be divided into three categories: religion, ecology and society. In terms of sentence structure, there are many complexities, due primarily to the author’s use of the vernacular. In the process of translation,it is necessary to explore how to find a suitable balance between the actual content and the closest equivalent Chinese expression.Due to the characteristics of the text, the theory of translation compensation of Justin de Xia is chosen to guide the translation process. The translation report is divided into four chapters. The third chapter is the case study under the guidance of translation compensation theory, which is the key chapter of this translation practice report. The author mainly focuses on the difficulties of text translation and analyzes the translation from three different levels: vocabulary compensation, grammar compensation and text compensation. The author adopts the compensation of separation, including both internal annotation and annotation alongside the text,in conjunction with integrated compensation, including the supplementary means of addition translation, both concrete and interpretative. It is hoped that the translation of these important views can help to promote National interest in the development of Indian religion and culture, and furthermore, that the translation practice used has elicited the intended meaning despite differing cultural backgrounds. |
