The New Sensation School is the first modernist literary school in the history of modern Chinese literature, and it was active in Shanghai’s literary world in the twentieth century thirties.Mu Shiying, known as “the sacred hand of the New Sensation School”,is a typical representative of it.But if we look at all the literary works created by Mu Shiying in his short life,we can not simply use the label “new feeling” to summarize all of Mu Shiying’s literary characteristics. At the beginning of creation,Mu Shiying first appeared in the literary world with a gesture of folk care that reveals the plight of the people at the bottom.“Antarctica” proficiently uses popular language skills, and its writing future is generally optimistic by the left-wing literary world.Afterwards,Mu Shiying not only did not develop in the direction of left-wing literature, but turned to the embrace of modernism. At the same time,he also started a debate about “soft and hard movies” with the Left-wing Telecom Union. However,in the newly discovered novel "China Marching",Mu Shiying used a grand narrative style of his family, country and nation, trying to depict the increasingly acute class contradictions of the Chinese society in the 1930 s.Combining the specific context of the times, and re-examining Mu Shiying’s literary creation from beginning to end,it is not difficult to find that it is closely related to the left-wing literature of the 1930 s that cannot be ignored. The introduction is based on literary activities and phenomena. It states the interaction between Mu Shiying and left-wing literature in the 1930 s.It roughly sorts out the main content of Mu Shiying’s research from modern to contemporary, and combines the relationship between Mu Shiying and left-wing literature.A proposition puts forward the innovation, research ideas and methods of this article. The body of the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly discusses Mu Shiying’s unintentional pursuit of left wing literature in the early stage of his creation. In the late 1920 s and early 1930 s,both left-wing literature and new sense literature appeared in the Chinese literary world as a pioneer, representing a kind of avant-garde and new trend. There is no strict division and standard between them. There are not only the writers with new feelings inclining to the left wing in politics and literature, but also the left-wing writers writing novels with new feeling style. That is to say,in the mixed cultural context of new feeling and left-wing literature,Mu Shiying created “north and south poles” out of the attempt of skill and following the trend, which is the first collection of his novels.Although the left-wing critics still criticize and dispute his thoughts and consciousness, his formal skills of language popularization are generally accepted by the left.Chapter Two mainly discusses Mu Shiying’s resistance to the left-wing literary rebellion in the middle of his creation.Under the influence of the Soviet "Rapp" materialist dialectics, with the establishment of the Left League, the left-wing camp gradually strengthened the establishment of self-standards and boundaries in the process of criticizing the class consciousness of new sense novels, and the new sense was further deepened.New sensation and left-wing literature moved from mixed flow to divergence, and Mu Shiying also moved from the expectations of left-wing writing to the departure of new sensation writing, completing the modernist artistic turn.In the "soft and hard film" dispute with the Left-wing Telecom Union,Mu Shiying showed a completely different view of criticism and literature and art from the left-wing literati. The third chapter mainly discusses Mu Shiying’s response to the contradictions of left-wing literature in the later stage of creation.Being immersed in the influence of mainstream left-wing literature for a long time,Mu Shiying inevitably cannot escape the "anxiety of influence".Although he is competing with the left-wing critics,Mu Shiying’s "March of China" written at about the same time is no matter the subject matter or content. The writing technique has an extremely distinct left-wing literary tendency. It has the same literary origin as the Chinese left-wing writer Mao Dun’s "Midnight" and the international left-wing writer Dos Passos’ s "America" trilogy, showing the mainstream The powerful literary appeal of the left. The conclusion systematically summarizes the relationship between Mu Shiying and left-wing literature in the 1930 s,and gives a reasonable explanation of this development and change of literary phenomenon in combination with Mu Shiying’s political choice to rebel,so as to better understand the complex relationship between the individual and the times.
