A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Measures Of Jiangsu Province On Handling Inland River Traffic Accidents

In the recent years,with the further development of Chinese legal system,the translation of local rules and regulations led by Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government is on the way.The translation of local legislative texts can not only regulate the behavior of foreigners,but also publicize Chinese legal image.Taking the Measures of Jiangsu Province on Handling Inland River Traffic Accidents as the object of study and the Measures of Jiangsu Province on Administration of Sand Excavation in the Riverways of the Yangtze River as supplementary material,this project report expounds on features of the source text,summarizes major difficulties in the translation process,and presents corresponding solutions to provide feasible references for legal translators.Major translation difficulties in the project report can be divided into lexical difficulties and syntactic difficulties.Lexical difficulties lie in the translation of terminologies,fuzzy expressions,and expressions with Chinese characteristics.Syntactic difficulties lie in the translation of long sentences and sentences with“de(的)” structure.Guided by the principles of accuracy,consistency,and equivalence,translation methods are as follows:(1)Referring to parallel texts and searching in databases are adopted for the translation of terminologies;(2)Literal translation and omission are used for the translation of fuzzy expressions;(3)Referring to official translation and literal translation are applied to the translation of expressions with Chinese characteristics;(4)Long sentences are translated through linear processing and reorganizing;(5)Sentences with “de(的)” structure are translated through adding a logical subject and converting to conditional adverbial clauses.By summarizing corresponding translation methods,this project report aims to provide references for C-E translation research of local rules and regulations.
