Under the background of increasingly frequent global cross-cultural exchanges, and the massive influx of Marvel Studios film into Chinese media market,Marvel Comics,as the cornerstone of Marvel Universe, has gradually gained more attention. However, few scholars have carried on researches on the comic translation.Based on a domestic theoretical framework for multimodal discourse analysis proposed by Prof.Zhang Delu, this paper intends to analyze the translation of several books from Marvel Comics from the levels of culture, context, content and expression, and shows how comics translation is influenced by mixed use of different modalities. As the research shows, first of all,in the process of comics translation,in addition to language, image, color and other forms of discourse have their own functions in meaning construction,so its translation have multimodal features. Therefore, from the perspective of multimodal discourse analysis, translators may improve the quality of comics translation to make the readers get a clearer picture and a more comprehensive understanding of the comics. What’s more, from the perspective of multimodal discourse analysis, this paper presents different translation methods adopted by the translator to make a good comics translation. At the cultural level, the translator employs domesticating translation strategy and adds notes;at the context level, the translator makes full use of both non-linguistic context and linguistic context to interpret the whole meaning of the text;at the content level, the translator pays less attention to the interpersonal meaning and text meaning;at the expression level, the translator takes into consideration of both verbal and non-verbal signs. It is hoped that this study shed some light on comic translation. |
