This thesis is a translation practice report based on the book The Future Is Faster Than You Think,which paints a picture of future life.And the two authors study how exponentially accelerating technologies would both impact whole society and our daily lives,which gives reference and guidance for China to deal with the transformation of science and technology.The original text uses a large number of proper nouns and technical terms,and contains many complex and long sentences or passive sentences,which need to be understood and analyzed by the translator.This thesis is guided by the Skopos theory,which put forward by the German translation theorist Hans J.Vermeer.The Skopos theory focuses on the importance of translation purpose.The purpose of scientific article is to publicize scientific knowledge and methods,as well as its ideas and spiritual connotations to the public,so that readers can understand all sides of science.The translator’s goal of translating this scientific work is to convey the contents of this book to Chinese readers accurately so that the target readers can easily understand the scientific knowledge.To achieve this purpose,addition,division and others can be used in the translation process.This thesis is composed of five sections.The first section presents the author and the background of the source text,the aim and significance of this practice,and gives introduction of original text.Chapter Two is task description from three levels,which are translation preparation,translation process and translation proofreading.Chapter Three emphasizes on the Skopos theory,introducing four development phases and three rules of the Skopos theory.The fourth part specifically tells about the translation techniques and methods for scientific texts from aspects of words and sentences.The last part concludes the findings of this translation practice,as well as the deficiencies and suggestions in this translation process.Through analysis and summary,in terms of word,the translator used conventional translation and transliteration or annotation to solve the translation problems of proper nouns and technical terms.In terms of sentences,the translator adopted the omission,division and reconstruction to deal with the translation difficulties of long and complex sentences.For a translation of passive sentences,the translator used addition and reverse translation.Through deep exploration,the translation quality of scientific works and similar texts could be improved. |
