Narrative Illustration Design Of The Book Of Poetry From The Perspective Of "Language And Picture" Intertextuality

As the earliest collection of Chinese poetry,The Book of Poetry reproduces the social outlook from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn period and contains rich ideology and attitudes of life.Carrying the historical memory of the nation,The Book of Poetry is an indispensable part of Chinese traditional literature.With the development of the times,people pay less attention to The Book of Poetry in their daily life.Numbers of scholars have discussed and studied it from the angles of history,folklore,communication and literature,while there are few research from the perspective of art design.In the fast era when people prefer to read picture,media that is used by people to obtain information has changed dramatically.How to make use of the visual carrier and form to make the culture of The Book of Poetry pass on,which is an urgent problem to be solved.On the basis of the study of the intertextuality,in illustration design,narrative images are integrated into an illustration so as to present linguistic conception and narrative features of the typical text in The Book of Poetry.Thus,modern people’s attention to traditional culture can be deepened therefrom.Some of the poems in The Book of Poetry are very narrative.This paper attempts to analyze the narrative mode of The Book of Poetry from three aspects,including space-time structure,narrative function of man and object and narrative perspective;Meanwhile,illustration has function.There are some similarities between written language of poetry and the image of illustration in terms of narrative function,elements and structure so that the narrative poetry and narrative illustrations have a multiple relationship of language and picture,such as,complementary,inequality,reflection,and integration of language and picture.Based on studying the relationship between narrative mode of The Book of Poetry and narrative illustration,this paper explores the design path of narrative illustration of The Book of Poetry.Under the principle of the coherence of narrative picture,the expression of narrative emotion and the unified style,selecting war poetry such as Odes of Bei Drum,Daya Changwu,sacrificial poems,such as,Daya Yuanhan,Ode to Shang Mysterious Bird,poems on agriculture,such as,Xiaoya No lamb,Odes of Wei In between fields,love and marriage poems such as Odes of Zheng Nv Yue Ji Ming,Odes of Yong Baizhou,banquet poems Xiaoya Delicious fish in south,Odes of Lu Fat Horse as typical studies,the narrative illustration design practice is carried out.
